We slept in a little this morning and finished unpacking at the apartment. After a trip to the grocery store and lunch at the apartment we headed out into the city. The main street that our apartment is off of runs directly into the city center, so we decided to make the trip on foot rather than take public transportation. Plus, I wanted to check out a couple of smaller parks nearby to see if they would be suitable for running or if they had playgrounds for Griffin. Along the way we noticed that there are a ton of therapists offices in the city. It seems that Freud’s influence on Vienna is similar to Life University’s influence on Marietta – tons of therapists in Vienna just like there are tons of chiropractors in Marietta! Griffin got a kick out of a fountain that we passed, so he decided to pose.

We found that there were a couple of small parks nearby our apartment, but were really interested in checking out Stadtpark, the large City Park. It is a beautiful park, but it took us a while to find it so we only got to explore for a few minutes before we had to move on to our next stop. We will be back to play and view all of the monuments!

We had to leave the park in order to make it over to Karlsplatz for an open air opera performance of Pagliacci. It was interesting how they used trucks to create the stage and the orchestra “pit”. The opera was in German, with some Italian, but we could kind of tell what was going on. Griffin only watched for a little bit; Resselpark is adjacent to the square, so he played on a playground there.

When leaving Karlsplatz, we discovered a monument dedicated to Johannes Brahms. Griffin and I couldn’t resist posing with the statue at the bottom. I REALLY wanted to climb up into the lap of Brahms, but Curt reminded me that I had to be a good role model for Griffin. So disappointing!

We walked back to the apartment via Margaretenstrasse, another main road that runs from the city center to our neighborhood. We stopped in to an Italian restaurant in Margaretenplatz for a late dinner. Although we were only out for about half a day, we logged 15,737 steps!

This is an interesting name for a store. I can’t help but sing its name to the tune of Polyester Bride by Liz Phair.
