I really, really love Greece! I believe it is one of the most aesthetically pleasing places I have ever visited. I am mesmerized by the very deep blues of the sea and its interaction with the bright, blinding sun. It’s so hard to choose just a few photographs to share, so there will be many in this post!
This port was our longest stop on the Mediterranean cruise aboard the MSC Lirica ship. We left in the evening from Bari, Italy and traveled overnight and all the next day to reach the island of Mykonos in the Aegean Sea. I was excited that we were able to stop here because it was skipped on our last Mediterranean cruise due to high winds. It was very windy on this day as well, but we were docking in port and didn’t have to tender to shore like we were supposed to in 2012.
Our first part of the day was spent in a tour of the archaeological site at Delos. This island off the coast of Mykonos is known for being the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis and artifacts indicate that it was inhabited as early as the 3rd Century BC. The ruins were beautiful and we were pleased to find a large number of cats roaming the island!

After our tour of Delos, we spent a few hours in Mykonos Town. We had a wonderful lunch on the waterfront, did quite a bit of shopping, went swimming, and visited windmills. It was a beautiful day!
