Plaza Mayor – The statue was created in the 1600s to honor King Philip III, but wasn’t placed in the plaza until the 1800s. All types of events have occurred here since it was constructed: markets, bullfights, public executions, soccer games, celebrations for saints, and the burning of heretics during the Spanish Inquisition.
