This is part of a monument to Cervantes in Plaza de Espana. The bronze statues are Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. The plaza is a much friendlier place today than it was in 1808 when the French used firing squads there to execute prisoners from the Dos de Mayo rebellion. The Cervantes monument is at one end of the plaza and a fountain is at the other end.
